Sandra Vida
ELEGY, subtitled a meditation on mortality, considers the basic human experience of bodily fragility and the inevitability of death. Moving beyond this inherently melancholic theme, the artist expresses an affirmative engagement with the cycle of life. ELEGY is an abstracted, layered composition that combines live video with a variety of animation techniques in an evocative and poetic manner. Original music adds a haunting quality to the flow of images.

Artist Biography:
For more than three decades, Sandra Vida has maintained a prolific visual art practice in collage, performance, film, video and installation, as well as playing an active role in Calgary’s vibrant art scene. She has been nominated twice for a Governor-General’s visual and media arts award, received the EPCOR Established Arts award at the Mayor’s Luncheon for Business and the Arts, and was one of three finalists for Alberta’s first Marion Nicoll Visual Art award.
